Crandon Park in Miami

Closest International Airport: Miami

Water Conditions: Shallow, flat water. Exposed sand bars at low tide. Watch out for swimmers, they have priority.
The water temperature rarely drops below 72 degrees. Local kiteboarders are often seen wearing full suits in the
winter however, if you are from the Gorge, it may seem like summer.

Beach Conditions: Beach is about 10 yards wide and limited to 30 kiteboarders per day. Be sure to kiteboard north
of the lifeguard tower. Set up, launch and land in the designated open beach area north of the lifeguard tower.
Always keep a buffer zone (200-300 ft) between you and others on the beach.

Weather Conditions: South Florida weather is warm and sunny year round.

Wind Conditions for Kiteboarding: Miami’s season for wind is October through April. Typical in season winds are
15-20 knots up to 20-25 knots when cold fronts pass though. Summer winds are on average 10-20 knots, with
occasional 15-20 knot day from the south.

Do not kiteboard in west winds.  This includes (NNW, NW, W, SW, SSW). The wind coming over land is extremely
gusty and will pull you out to sea.

Directions to Launch: I-95 to south to the end (US1). Make a left to Rickenbacker Causeway heading east. Toll is
$1.00. Continue the Causeway about three miles. Park entrance is on the left. Drive to the far north end of the
parking lot. Walk north on the sidewalk and continue walking north following the trail to the beach. There is a
lifeguard tower at the end of the trail on the beach. Launch north of the tower.

Parking: Entrance fee of $5.00.

Schools: Go to our kiteboarding lessons page.

Rules and regulations: Florida Kiteboarding Safety Rules. Everyone should read and obey these rules.

Local shops: Water-play in Miami.

Tips: Watch out for the posts 10 yards out south of the launch.
Do not leave valuables in your car.
